Exquisite 1950's Ceil Chapman dress! Ceil was an amazing designer that is well known to collectors. Done in black jersey that is draped to perfection. Off the shoulder or just on the edge of shoulder style with ruched and gathered elbow length sleeves. Draped bodice that is fully boned and lined. Fitted waist and draped skirt that has a lining. Super low back. Over the skirt is an overskirt that is fully lined in a stiff interfacing for a structured effect. The back of skirt is structured with the interfacing. Back metal zip.
The November 1953 Vogue says " Moulded matte jersey: the most successful dress of its kind. This particular dress is already a fabulous success. See why? Its a fashion, and it's a figure-maker. The entire front is moulded, the side panels are stiffened. By Ceil Chapman of Heller rayon matter jersey $80" ($921 in today's money)
