♥Adele Lawrence of Lawrence of London decided in 1947 that there was no reason why raincoats should lack the type of styling and fabrics usually reserved for the nice weather coats. She began researching ways of water repelling luxury fabrics. "I learned all about water repellency" said Mrs. Lawrence "and found that most fragile fabric can be made water repellent, but it is important the lining be treated too" These coats ranged in price from $26.75 ($275) to $650 ($6600) for silk with mink lining.
♥We acquired several high end couture gowns from the Estate of Mrs. Steinberg of St. Louis. Mrs. Steinberg was a notable philanthropist and loved art. She came from an established St. Louis family involved in the Rice-Stix company. After her husband died, she gave funds to create an ice rink in his name based on the rink in Central Park, NYC. She had much art in her collection including Renoir, Van Gogh and Monet. She also gave to local hospitals, libraries and universities.
